Join us on our the Aardehuis excursion trip on the 24th of May!

Stichting Aardehuis is performing a feat unique on Dutch soil, namely the construction of multiple blocks of sustainable earthship houses. Most of the actual labor being done to create this self-sufficient ecovillage is done by the future occupants and by volunteers, rather than a traditional construction crew! The finished houses will feature their own water and sanitation systems and independent energy production. A marvelous community is already forming over there – a visit is therefore sure to prove inspirational!

VOX and Studium Generale are organizing a field trip to the construction site for students who want to see it for themselves. A bus will be waiting for us next to the Aula to depart at 11.30am and head over together in the early afternoon. On location, we will receive a lecture on the inspirational design elements and technology used – after which we will embark on a tour around the build site, finished off with a small workshop where we can spend an hour or two helping to build one of the houses with recycled car tires and clay. Once the whole thing is over, we will eat at a pancake house for dinner and drinks before the bus takes us back to Delft.

The excursion will take place on Friday, May 24th, 2012. We’re asking students for a €5 fee to cover some of the travel expenses. Send an email to to sign up and join us.
